This year, the AKO Caine Prize is able to offer a global invitation to the announcement of the winner of the 2020 AKO Caine Prize for African Writing. We sincerely hope you will join us online as we announce the winner of the 2020 AKO Caine Prize for African Writing on Monday 27 July at 5pm British Summer Time. (GMT +1)

In response to the unprecedented times and circumstances created by the Covid-19 pandemic and to mark our twenty-first year and to celebrate this year’s winner, we are excited to announce that the winner will be announced via a film by British-Nigerian film-maker, Joseph A. Adesunloye highlighting the work of this year’s exceptional shortlisted writers, as well as announcing and celebrating the winner.

The film will be available to view on Monday 27th July at 5pm (British Summer Time) on our website and youtube channel.

ABOUT THE FILM-MAKER

Joseph A. Adesunloye has been twice nominated for Raindance Best British Short film nominee for his films Beyond Plain Sight (2014) and 46 (2017). His films have also been showcased at many festivals including the BFI FLARE, the Iris Prize, and the London Short Film Festival. Joseph’s second feature FACES was nominated Best International Feature Film at the Durban International Film Festival 2018 and won best feature film at the Durban LGBT Film Festival.
