Please join RELE Gallery from the 2nd till the 4th of September at the 15th edition of FNB Art Joburg for a solo presentation of new works from Sedireng Mothibatsela.

Mothibatsela’s collection of series ‘MarthaFrancis’ serves as a tribute to her grandmothers and her experience of their existence. Presenting smoke drawings and intricately detailed paintings, she considers the destructive and creative quality of flame as a medium, in attempting to understand the transformation that comes with death. Her paintings also utilise materials and depict objects rooted in history and memory, serving as mementos of intimacy and connection through history.
