I wish you a Happy New Year on behalf of the management and board of trustees. We hope that your 2021 was eventful. With the pandemic still raging and taking different dimensions, our lives have not resumed to normal. I am hopeful that 2022 will see the end of the pandemic and we can resume the things we love to do without worry: shaking hands, hugging, travelling and much more.
The beauty of the New Year is the surge of inspiration it brings to make a difference in our lives. Coincidently, I am currently reading a book by Katy Milkman called How to Change: The Science of Getting from Where You Are to Where You Want to Be. The author speaks on how to make significant change with science. Interestingly, she also covers a question no one particularly asks: “When is the right time to pursue change in your life?” Say in: training and development, pursuing new hobbies? Writing that book?
I have found the book insightful and wise in her hypothesis, which she has tested with significant success. She mentions in the book that the New Year is one period that people make changes. We hope you have the “will power” and “grit” to make the significant changes you wish for this 2022.
SBMEN is also going through her own transformation. Like a typical co-founder, with no previous experience in training and development, I have tinkered for the last three years to shape the outlook of SBMEN. It has been with much learning, failing, speaking to veterans and mentors, the support of the countless individuals that attended our workshops and our board of trustees that we have been able to come this far. We can’t say thank you enough to everyone.
We have some new programmes, and we are on course to continue most of the changes we announced last year that we did not achieve. We initially had only four (4) courses in a year; now, we have ten (10) courses in 2022.
Speaking of new things, I have elaborated on the new direction below:
Lastly, SBMEN is opening a new office/training facility this year. We are excited to begin to receive you in our space to conduct training. We will keep you informed.
I will end this letter with one of my favourite quotes by Beryl Markham, an English author, that states:
“If a man has any greatness in him, it comes to light, not in one flamboyant hour, but in the ledger of his daily work.”
We hope that you find satisfaction and greatness as you invest in yourself this year. We look forward to seeing you at our workshops this year. The training calendar will soon be uploaded on the website for you to download.
Membership application is also open from Tuesday 4 January 2022. Email: firstname.lastname@example.org or call 0908 599 9928
We are going to hold a town hall meeting to connect with the community this January. We will announce. It will be virtual to give a chance to everyone to attend.
We wish you a remarkable year ahead. Please stay safe.
From the depths of our heart, we say a big thank you for your support.
