Gloucestershire event loses asset manager’s funding as director of Edinburgh International Book Festival says frightened authors are pulling out.

The Cheltenham Literature Festival has become the latest event to have its ties cut with the asset management company Baillie Gifford after threats of a boycott over links to fossil fuels and Israel.

Organisers said the event was seeking alternative funding after Baillie Gifford ended a longstanding partnership. Expressing “great sadness” at the end of the arrangement, the organisers said they had turned money from Baillie Gifford “to positive ends … increasing access to, and representation within, the very public debates that can affect lasting change.
