
The African Women Playwrights Network (AWPN) has released the 10 finalists of the maiden AWPN Festival of Plays scheduled to hold in from 1st – 4th September, 2022.
The list includes three South African and three Nigerian playwrights as well as one dramatist each from Botswana, Ghana, Kenya and Zimbabwe.
Their plays will be performed at the School of Performing Arts, University of Ghana, Legon, venue of the festival.
Last May, APWN had called on African female playwrights from the age of 18 upward, to submit plays that speak to the theme: Tackling Taboo Topics in African Female Writings.
The call ran from May 2 to June 2, 2022
Only one submission per playwright, co-authorship is not allowed
Submission of a ONE ACT play of not more than TEN minutes in running time
Three (3) characters maximum in the play
The playwright must be, or identify as an African female living in Africa
The competition is open to anyone from the age of 18 upward
Plays will be selected based on their newness, originality, and thematic relevance and must not have been produced or shown anywhere else.
Submissions must be for stage
All submissions must be in English (Translated plays are acceptable)
