Art Exhibition: Blues and Ballads

Affordable Art Online is presenting Gbemileke Adekunle’s first exhibition at the Affinity Gallery. The Obafemi Awolowo University trained visual artist’s exhibition is named after Jazz pianist, brad Mehldau’s studio album.  “I am showing 20 pieces in this exhibition. I have landscape works and portraits that capture melancholic moods and other emotions. I often use pallete knife to paint although, I used conventional brush and pastel for some others,’’ the artists said to Thisday.

Art Exhibition: Silent Scream

Contemporary Nigerian artist, Chika Idu who has described himself as a ‘keen observer of life’ will be holding a solo exhibition of his works at the Sach’s Gallery, Lagos. At the core of his art is the plight of women and children in the society.

Independence Day Concert at the British Council

Orchestra: The Afri-Classical Concert

The Vesta Orchestra will be performing in the evening of the public holiday, October 1, 2021, at the British Council premises in Ikoyi. The band, a group of a40 performers dedicated to the promotion of music by African-classical, Nigerian Highlife, and Nigerian contemporary composers. They have performed songs by Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, Fela Sowande, Rex Lawson, E.C. Arinze, Akin Euba, Bobby Benson, Victor Uwaifo and other legends of Nigerian music.

The Afri-Classical Concert is supported by the British Council.

Art Exhibition: Are you Comfortable Now?

Lagos based young artists; Chigozie Obi and Ugo Ahiakwo are presenting an exhibition at the Whitespace Creative Agency. Chigozie Obi, a painter who uses oil as her primary medium has also dabbled into drawings and digital illustrations. Ugo Ahiakwo is a multimedia artist and designer who is one of Nigeria’s contemporary artists.

Art Exhibition: Becoming: A History of the Future

Art Collective, Creators Creed NG featuring Nigerian artists of diverse creative backgrounds will be hosting a first group exhibition titled “Becoming.” The artists state that the exhibition is about self-awareness, identity, and how each artist is navigating the world around them to become who they perceive their world to be. The proposed exhibition will touch on sensitive and current issues such as identity crisis, depression, emotional trauma and life in Nigeria. The artworks to be exhibited will be but not limited to traditional canvas painting, various prints including photographs, woodworks, steelworks, and several forms of installations.

The Kokopelli Gallery is presenting its inaugural art exhibition titled A Roomful of Stories. The exhibition will feature works in different media by 15 contemporary Nigerian artists, Damola Adepoju, Donna Duke, DotunMakun, Funke Oladimeji, Bolaji Ogunwo, Osifeso Ezekiel, AdemuyiwaLadega, Akintomide Aluko, Ibrahim Bamidele, Kelly Omodamwen, Olajide Salako, Greg Onyeka, Suraj Adekola, Joseph David and Kel Savage. The exhibition is curated by KenniEkundayo.

Art Exhibition: VANTAGE POINT

SMO Contemporary Art has curated Vantage Point, an exhibition of photographs by Oyebola Famuyiwa and Bernard Kalu, to celebrate the10th Anniversary of the WheatbakerHotel. The two artist exhibition showcases unique aerial and terrestrial perspectives of one of the world’s largest cities. Famuyiwa and Kalu explore the culture, history, and aesthetics of Lagos from unique perspectives and angles revealing the patterns, colors, textures and complexity of this vibrant metropolis with its ever-expanding population and critical environmental challenges.

Art Exhibition: FREE FORMS

RELE GALLERY is presenting Free Forms, an exhibition of metal sculptures by Olu Amoda, “Created from parts sourced from fabricator shops and forge offcuts, the small-scale metal sculptures featured in the exhibition examine the quality and latent energy of material as well as the irregularity of form”, the gallery explains. “In Free Forms, Amoda continues a career-long dialogue with materiality and the transformation of objects found from the detritus of consumer culture. We move with the artist through metalworking shops and forges, exploring the residual histories of material and reading new forms from constituent parts”.
